Question:
Anyone have experience with the last version of the AF 35-105 non D Nikkor, the one-touch version, versus the later 35-105 AF-D. The earlier one I suspect is a remake of the 15 element AIS manual focus version with macro capability. The "D" version has less elements and no macro capability, though it does focus closer. Appreciate it. Rick

The closest focus is reduced in macro (at 35mm,–11 inches) and the focusing collar was widened. It is 16/12 on the lens/group count. (The AIS version in MF was the same–16/12). The "D" lens is radically different. It features aspheric elements, dropping down to 13/10–with outstanding optical performance. The macro function was dropped and will now focus to only 33-1/2 inches.
Response:
I have the last version of the 35-105 AF lens before it went to "D" I have had no complaints about it. It was my first AF lens that I have ever purchased when I bought my F4s all my lenses up till that point were all manual focus lenses. It is a sharp lens at least wth my sample and still use it. When I want one general purpose AF lens. Has macro mode down to 11 inches. The "D" vsersion of this lens is "IF" and has 13 elements in 10 groups, 1 element is asperical for supposedly minimized distortion, higher resolution and improved contrast. Macro mode dropped for minimum focus of 3 ft. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Rick Schiller asks: Anyone have experience with the last version of the AF 35-105 non D Nikkor, the one-touch version, versus the later 35-105 AF-D.
