Question:
does anybody use pentax in this NG
I have a ZX-M that I bought precisely for the fact that I could start learning photography. I love my camera, to be honest though, I was starting to get an inferiority complex listening to all the other canon and nikon users…… I think when I decide to upgrade to a more complex camera I’d like to look at a PZ-P1 (I think that’s it) Julia – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text –

Actually, the K mount came in the 70’s. Pentax was, unfortunately, last with bayonet. Bummer. :)
But at least they are still using it.

I use a ZX-M. My first SLR was a K-1000. After that I used a KX and A3000. Today’s lenses are very good, with select ones (the Limited series) better than anything offered by anyone else. The 43/1.9 is now considered a "reference" lens against which others are compared. It stands alongside the Zeiss 50/1.4 sold by Contax. Collin does anybody use pentax in this NG

The lenses are very good. The lens mount hasn’t changed since the 60s, unlike Canon or Minolta, so that you can get older lenses second hand inexpensively. It would seem, though, that the range of lenses are not as wide as Nikon or Canon, this and the fact that most places that rent lenses have mostly Nikon or Canon. Pros apparently care about this. But most people only need a few good lenses: a wide, a portrait and may be a zoom. Tonghang

Yes, and if I had to make my choice today, I’d go with Pentax again, because it is the best compromise of a small and useful system. For my needs. Lutz Kirchner phil&sandy schrieb: – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – does anybody use pentax in this NG

I don’t have a Pentax body, but have 3 Pentax lenses: 28-70mm/4 FA 50mm/1.4 A 200mm/4 M I’ve been around the Brand block and can say Pentax lenses are excellent. One of these days, I may get a ZX5n, but enjoy manual photography now. I’ve been eyeing a 35mm/2 and a used 400mm/2.8. Unfortunately, I have to get my sewer and water supply lines replaced from house to street, so I can’t spend the $$ now. If I may correct here — the current mount dates from the mid-1970s, not the ’60s. E.R. http://members.aol.com/ernreed If you aren’t spamming, avoid the junktrap

I use Pertax for serious, critical work. I have a stable of K1000s for my most serious work, An MV and an ME for certain applications "in the field" (a little bit of autmation there), and a collection of Spotmatics and related accessories that get occasional use. Also, I have some Ricoh bodies because of their compatibility… they get some use because they are easy and light, and because I am not as worried about losing them as with the Pentax. EJKowalski

All my SLRs are Pentaxes. I currently use a PZ-1, a ZX-5n and an LX. (Also one Pentax non-SLR, the IQZoom90WR). In the past I’ve owned & used the following Pentax models: K1000 ME Super P30T Super Program Program Plus KX (had two Ricoh/Sears bodies in the past; traded one in on an ME Super, gave the other to my husband, who still has it as backup to his ZX-10). Yes, it was designed for the KA lenses to get the program function. However, the earlier K and M (compact K’s) lenses will support manual and aperture preferred functions on the Program Plus. You can also use the newer K-AF lenses for the two mentioned functions only. Regards, Ed M.
Response:
reeserve.co.uk writes can anyone tell me what type of lens mount the pentax program plus has
As mentioned a Pentax KA mount, ‘Program Plus’ was the US name for the Program-A. All Pentax KA and AF lenses will work fine, however I think some of the later Sigma AF lenses don’t work properly in program mode [Super-A, Program-A, A3, P30/n/t & P50] (they mis-read the aperture – or at least my 70-300 f/4-5.6 APO does). As far as I’m aware, all other independent KA lenses are fine (including Tamron ADII lenses with the PKA mount). Basic K lenses will also work fine but only in manual and aperture priority. — John Preston, Lancs, UK. Photos at http://www.photopia.demon.co.uk
